BASELINE

The Baseline Band consisted of four musicians & two Las Vegas Showgirls. Laurie Padden/Speights & Sandy as the dancer/singers, with Jimmy Young, guitar/vocalist, Wayne Barracks, bass guitar/vocalist, Frank Lopis, drums, & Arlen Viecelli, guitar/vocals.

the band only lost a few microphone stands,
by loading and unloading, this way.
“It was pretty intense in High Seas.”

Traveling overseas to entertain the troops was a very fulfilling opportunity for Arlen & the band. They traveled on military aircraft, ships & ground vehicles. When the band landed on Oman (in the gulf of Oman), there were automatic weapon carrying non-American soldiers on camels everywhere. “ When I saw that, I knew we were in for the adventure of a life time”.

The band was transferred via helicopter, to the U.S.S. Independence aircraft carrier stationed in the Persian Gulf, between Iraq & Iran. At that time the tensions were high, due to the fact that they were holding Americans as hostages, and President Reagan had put them on notice, that he was coming to get them and he wasn’t going to back down.

The band was lowered from helicopters, with a cable to the decks of the ships at sea, as there was nowhere for the helicopters to land on deck. All the equipment was handled, (as well as the band members), with the utmost care. “That was totally awesome”.

The tour started in Las Vegas, onto San Diego, Alaska, Tokyo, Philippines, Okinawa, Diego Garcia, Hawaii Islands, (five different ones), Midway Island, Kure Island and back to Las Vegas. Talk about a whirlwind tour, in so many countries, with so many dates in so many places. “I wouldn’t have missed this for anything in the world”.

in every city and they were very gracious
in allowing US citizens to use their
equipment to rock and roll American style.
